El objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar las fortalezas y debilidades de la Unidad de Tecnología Lechera (UTL) de la Universidad Autónoma Chapingo, así como las amenazas y las oportunidades que ofrece su entorno, buscando identificar los factores de éxito y proponer estrategias que ayuden a mejorar su desarrollo. Mediante el Análisis Factorial y la matriz FODA se determinó que la integración de la UTL al Sistema Lácteos de la UACh, conformado también por el Campo Agrícola Experimental y la Granja Experimental, ha permitido que ésta tenga un rumbo más preciso, un mejor control financiero y una mejora de su infraestructura y equipo. A pesar de los beneficios que ha logrado la Unidad con su incorporación al Sistema Lácteos, su operación ha sido obstaculizada por una serie de problemas en el abasto de materia prima, en mercadeo, en la dirección y en los recursos humanos. Sin embargo, mejorando algunos aspectos internos, como: a) La administración de la Unidad, b) La creación de un ambiente laboral más eficaz, c) El asequramiento de la homogeneidad y constancia de calidad en todos los productos lácteos, d) Un mayor volumen de ventas, e) Una mayor diversidad de sus productos y sus presentaciones, entre otros, se podría asegurar un mejor funcionamiento y un mayor logro de los objetivos académicos, de investigación y producción en la UTL. --

The objective of this work was to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the Milk Technology Unit (Unidad de Técnología Lechera - UTL) of the University of Chapingo, as well as the risks and the opportunities posed by its environment. Factors for success are determined and strategies are proposed to help improve its development. Using Factorial Analysis and the FODA ( Fortalezas, Oportunidades, Detbilidades y Amenazas) matrix, it was found that the incorporation of the UTL into the Dairy System of the University, which includes the Experimental Fields and Farm, has permited a more precise direction, better financial control, and improvement in infraestructure and equipment. In spite of the benefits that the Unit has achieved with its incorporation into the Dairy System, a series of problems in the supply of raw material, marketing, management and human resources have hindered operations. However, by improving some internal elements, it is possible to insure a more efficient operation and a greater possibility of achieving academic objectives in terms of research and production in the UTL. These elements include: a) management, b) a more effective work environment,c) guarantee of homogeneity and stability in the quality of all of the dairy products, d) larger sales volumes, and e) wider diversity of products, among others.
