La producción de cebada en México ha aumentado en los últimos años, de tal forma que actualmente ocupa el quinto lugar en la producción nacional de granos, después del maíz, sorgo, trigo y frijol, por lo que la implementación de los paquetes tecnológicos, en el municipio de Villa de Arriaga, S.L.P., permitió dar un gran paso en el desarrollo del sistema producto cebada, ya que permite beneficiar tanto a pequeños productores como a los grandes.
Con la intervención de Gobierno Municipal, Gobierno Estatal y Gobierno Federal, así como la empresa privada Grupo Modelo, se lograron entregar 9,384 hectáreas, beneficiando a 1 047 productores con una inversión de 34.2 millones de pesos. Con esto se logró el incremento de la producción en un 53% y además de que se asegurar la venta de la cosecha al poder contar con un comprador directo bajo la modalidad de agricultura por contrato y la fijación de un precio de $ 4.50 por kilogramo, en general.
Y además de que en esta forma se evitó en gran medida el coyotaje.
