Tanto el sorgo grano como el maíz, son la base del sistema agroalimentario nacional: la tortilla, la leche, la carne y el huevo, tienen sus cimientos en estos cultivos. Es por ello, que en el presente proyecto se realizó un estudio, mediante entrevistas directas a los actores principales, que nos muestran la realidad del impacto de la llamada crisis estructural del campo mexicano; es decir las condiciones sociales, técnicas, y económicas a las que se enfrentan los productores; además de la infraestructura y equipamiento con la que cuentan los centros de acopio de sorgo grano y maíz en la región norte del estado de Tamaulipas, y así obtener una visión completa dándonos una perspectiva realista de la producción de granos básicos en el norte de país; así como la situación en la que vivimos con relación a la producción agroalimentaria. El presente estudio muestra que la edad promedio de los productores es de 58 años; es decir el material humano con el que se cuenta no podrá seguir con esta actividad en el mediano plazo; sin embargo; el 68% de los entrevistados dijeron que, a sus hijos les interesa continuar con la actividad agrícola, a pesar de que en los últimos años exista un aumento acelerado en los costos de producción de sorgo grano y maíz, aunado a ello, un apoyo insuficiente por parte del gobierno federal para compensar dichos incrementos. Por otra parte, en el norte de Tamaulipas existen instalaciones donde el manejo de grano se lleva a cabo mediante sistemas mecanizados, con áreas específicas para realizar las maniobras de carga y descarga, así como equipo para movilizar el grano; elevadores y transportadores; se disponen de equipo de laboratorio para el análisis de granos, básculas camioneras, se cuentan con secadoras de granos y sistema de aireación, lo cual nos ubica como una de las regiones más importantes de nuestro país en la producción y almacenamiento de granos básicos.

Both sorghum and corn are the basis of the national agri-food system: tortillas, milk, meat and eggs have their foundations in these crops. That is why, in the present project, a study was carried out, through direct interviews with the main actors, that show us the reality of the impact of the so-called structural crisis in the Mexican countryside; that is, the social, technical, and economic conditions that producers face; in addition to the infrastructure and equipment that the corn and sorghum collection centers have in the northern region of the state of Tamaulipas, and thus obtain a complete vision giving us a realistic perspective of the production of basic grains in the north of the country; as well as the situation in which we live in relation to agrifood production. The present study shows that the average age of the producers is 58 years; that is to say, the human material with which it is counted will not be able to continue with this activity in the medium term; but nevertheless; 68 percent of the interviewees said that their children are interested in continuing with agricultural activity, despite the fact that in recent years there has been an accelerated increase in the production costs of grain and maize sorghum, coupled with insufficient by the federal government to compensate for such increases. On the other hand, in northern Tamaulipas there are facilities where grain handling is carried out through mechanized systems, with specific areas for carrying out the loading and unloading maneuvers, as well as equipment to mobilize the grain; elevators and conveyors; laboratory equipment is available for the analysis of grains, truck scales, grains dryer and aeration system, which places us as one of the most important regions of our country in the production and storage of basic grains.
