La mayoría de los agricultores sonorenses entrevistados tienen costos por tonelada producida más elevados que sus ingresos (17.6%) por mayores erogaciones en: mano de obra alquilada, fertilizante, labores mecanizadas, agua de riego y pago de intereses. Es posible mejorar la rentabilidad de los productores en el corto plazo mediante la adopción de controles administrativos de las labores y gastos realizados y su optimización como productores. To analyze the profitability of the wheat crop, the costs of production were calculated using surveys to farmers. The Yaqui Valley wheat producers have a wide range of production costs, unrelated to the planted area. Their lack of administrative controls is remarkable. They have higher cost per ton of wheat produced than their income (17.6%) originated by higher expenditures in: hired labor, fertilizers, custom operations, irrigation, and loan costs, compared with the ones of US farmers.
