En frutos de ciruela In a first experiment with plum fruit (Prujius salicina Lindl.) cv. Methley, three forms of fertilization were studied (control group, manure and straw) and the ethrel application (2000 ppm of active ingredient) by dipping in postharvest. In another experiment, postharvest applications of calciiun chloride (CaCla) by di pping in three concentrations (1, 3 and 5%) and three lapses of di pping (15, 30 and 45 minutes). In both instances, the fruit was cold storaged and total soluble solids (TSS), weigth loss, firmness, titratable acidity, °Bx/acidity relationship, color (hue angle and saturation index) were determined; and for the CaCl, applications, the chilling injuries were also evaluated. The two fertilization forms decreased the TSS and the weight loss significantly; the fertilization with manure caused a significant decrease on the titratable acidity and on the color purity (saturation index), and an increase on the °Bx/acidity relationship and on the hue angle (the fruit was less reddish). In general, the ethrel applications caused an increase on the weight loss and a decrease on the firmness and on the saturation index. The TSS, the titratable acidity, the "Bx/acidity relation ship and the hue angle were not affected. The CaCla applications did not cause the expected effect in the majority of the evaluated variables.
