ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to realize an agro-ecological zoning, using the methodology proposed by FAO with geographic information systems (GIS), considering the soil and climatic requirements of malanga {Colocasia esculenta (L.) Shott) and the conditions of these parameters in high river Coatzacoalcos watershed with the goal to establish growing areas which have the best soil and climate conditions for production. Also, was realized an bromatological analysis with corms of malanga collected in the watershed. The results of the agroecological zoning present 878 agro-ecological cells, 4 cells with nine suitable factors representing 2.16%, 26 cells with eight suitable factors representing 7.88%, 64 cells with seven suitable factors representing 9.51%, 138 cells with five suitable factors representing 13.60%, 142 cells with four suitable factors representing 16.83% , 147 cells with three suitable factors representing 11.35%, 152 cells with two suitable factors representing 19.44%, 77 cells with one suitable factor representing 7.26% and finally, 24 cells without suitable factor representing 1.43%; these percentages are based on the total surface of the watershed. Factors with a grade of unsuitable adaptability in some parts of the watershed are: maximum temperature, medium temperature, minimum temperature, soil, organic matter, slope and growing period. With a grade of marginal adaptability in some parts of the watershed we have the factors mentioned previously, altitude and soil pH. According to the bromatological analysis realized, it was found higher humidity content in the samples from the municipality of Uxpanapa Veracruz, higher crude fibre content, higher extract ethereal content and higher carbohydrates content than the samples from the municipality of San Juan Mazatlan Oaxaca, these were higher in relation to the ash content and crude protein content.ZONIFICACION AGROECOLOGICA DE LA MALANGA (COLOCASI220117s xx 000 0 und d a186054 aDisponible en PDF a1 ej. imp. ; 1 ej CD aColocasia esculenta aPhysicochemical properties aPropiedades fisicoquímicas aRoot vegetables aTaro aTubérculos comestibles aZonificación aZoning aEsparza Torres, Félix, dir. aFernández Fernández, Oscar, asesor aNuñez Peñaloza, Jorge Luis, coaut. aSuárez Espinosa, Carlos, asesor
